Ex-wife sues CS Hassan Wario for KSh400, 000 monthly maintenance

Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario has been sued by his estranged wife Kaltum Dima Guyo over maintenance.

Ms Guyo wants the court to order the cabinet secretary to pay her a monthly maintenance fee of KSh400, 000.

Ms Guyo is seeking KSh150, 000 as house rent, KSh50, 000 for food, KSh50, 000 for medical expenses, KSh50, 000 for entertainment, utility bills of KSh25, 000, KSh40, 000 for transport and KSh35, 000 for grooming.

According to court papers, the ex-couple were childhood friends and got married in September, 1997.

Ms Guyo argues she played a vital role in ensuring Dr. Wario’s succeeded in life, as she is the one who paid his college fees. She acknowledges that the marriage did not bear any children.

Through her lawyer John Khaminwa the petitioner resigned at Kenya Tourist Development Corporation (KTDC) and joined Wario in the United Kingdom where they stayed together in a flat in the city of Norwich.

“It was as a result of the increased income I got that we were able to live a suitable life to enable Wario have a conducive atmosphere to enable him finish his studies, “she argued.

However in May 2012, the pair was granted divorce by the superior court in England.

“As a result of strain in our relationship and the constant trips, sometimes outside the United Kingdom made by the respondent without my knowledge; and the knowledge that I had of Wario’s infidelity, I instructed my lawyers to commence divorce proceedings against Wario,” argued Ms Guyo.

She has accused the CS of being selfish, claiming that Wario refused to assist her to achieve her dream of studying law and obtaining a law degree.

High court judge Isaack Lenaola directed that the case be heard before a family court.
