Two relatives, a man, 19, and girl, 13, from Kokwet Village in Kipkelion Sub-County, Kericho County were on Wednesday, September 13 arrested on suspicion of committing incest.
The teenagers were putting up in a makeshift tent pitched in a bush in Kapinguroon, when the police nabbed them.
According to Torotoon Location chief, Richard Koech, the two lovers went missing from home one month ago, which made their guardians to file missing persons report with the authorities.
A search for the two, who are maternal cousins, was, thereafter, launched.
Chief Koech revealed that the male suspect was being housed by the 13-year-old girl’s father in Kericho town, where an illicit love affair between the two cousins blossomed.
During his stay in Kericho town, where he was pursuing a driving course, the male suspect managed to convince the Class Six pupil into eloping with him into a nearby bush, where they put up for a month before being discovered.
The male suspect, who until his disappearance, engaged in menial jobs in Kericho town, was providing food for his lover.
Chief Koech said security officers nabbed the lovers Wednesday morning after residents informed the police about the pair’s whereabouts.
The male suspect attempted to escape but was cornered and arrested at Cherara area, before he could go into hiding.
The suspect is being held at the Fortenan Police Station as an investigation into the illicit relationship continues.
Once the investigation is concluded, the male suspect could face charges of incest, and being in a relationship with a minor.
