End of the road for commercial sex workers in Eldoret?

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has banned commercial sex work.

Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan on Thursday, December 14 ordered police officers to crack down on prostitutes in Eldoret Town.

According to Mr Hassan, the prostitutes have developed a habit of fleecing unsuspecting farmers during the festive season.

By this time of the year, farmers in Eldoret often harvest and sell their produce to the National Cereals and Produce Board.

Speaking in Eldoret Town Thursday, Mr Hassan said: “Our farmers have worked very hard to earn their money. Prostitutes from other regions have flocked Eldoret Town, hoping to make a killing out of them. They are targeting farmers at strategic entertainment joints, arguing that they (prostitutes), too, are business people. As we approach the festive season – Christmas and New Year – polisi, nyorosha hao sawa sawa, kaza kamba kabisa; usiwapatie pumzi; hakikisha umetoboa ili wakauke, wazorote na wapotee.”

Mr Hassan wants prostitutes, who will be arrested in the crackdown, to be prosecuted.
