Deputy President William Ruto congratulated his wife Rachel after she graduated with a Masters Degree on Saturday, saying that he is his “best friend”.
Sharing a picture of his wife donning a regal black graduation grown and a yellow and maroon sash, the DP applauded his wife’s academic achievement.
“My dear wife and best friend congratulations on your graduation with MA. You are God’s best gift to me and the kids,” Ruto posted on his official social media pages.
His posts attracted further praises for the mother of six, with many social media users saying that her pursuit of knowledge – despite her position – is exemplary.
“Wow DP those words are sweet! To say the truth, she is truly a gift not only to you and the babies but also to many others out here she is a mentor to the rest of us. Congratulations and all the best in you next move,” Sue Wanjiru wrote.
Others chose to contrast Ruto’s affectionate post about Rachel to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s much publicised exchange with his wife, where he said she “belongs in the kitchen”.
“Thanks DP for praising her! You’re better than Buhari who said his wife belongs to kitchen and bedroom. The bible also talks about wife of noble character in proverbs 30:28. Her children arise and call her blessed, her husband also and he praises her, much like you have done,” wrote Wanderema Edie.
