Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has dismissed online reports claiming he and his bodyguards assaulted a parking attendant in Westlands, Nairobi after the legislator allegedly refused to pay for parking at a building in the area.
Mr Owino is accused of charging at the helpless parking attendant on January 11.
Video clips obtained from a CCTV footage at the Fortis Plaza in Westlands, Nairobi shows a group of men storm out of a SUV vehicle and land kicks and blows on a man, believed to be the parking attendant, after he (parking attendant) allegedly went to ask for parking fees from the driver of the vehicle.
A section of online users claim the leader of the group which roughed up the parking attendant was MP Babu Owino, given his striking resemblance with the lawmaker.
Mr Owino, in an exclusive interview with eDaily, however, denied the claims, saying it is his political rivals in the Jubilee camp who crafted the allegations.
“I was in Mombasa on January 11. So, there is no way I would have assaulted a person who was miles away from where I was. I think my political rivals in the Jubilee camp are responsible for the falsehoods being peddled online. I strongly distance myself from that controversial video clip,” he said.
