Celebrated Tanzanian musician Nasibu Abdul, famously known as Diamond Platnumz, has bagged the Best African Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) which is to take place on 25th October.
“MTV today revealed that Diamond Platnumz is the winner of the 2015 MTV EMAs Best African Act. Scores of music fans visited mtvema.com to vote for Diamond Platnumz, who beat incredible competition from AKA, Yemi Alade, Davido, and DJ Arafat,” a statement from the station read.
Previous artists who have won the Best African Act award include Kenya’s very own Sauti Sol (2014), LCNVL (2013) D’Banj (2007 and 2012), Freshly ground (2006) and 2Face Idibia (2005).
The event will feature several high profile artists such as Pharell Williams, Ellie Goulding, Ed Sheeran, Jason Derulo, Ryan Lewis and Macklemore.
Diamond’s next challenge will be facing the winning act from India to be named Best Africa/India Act. Both awards are attained through votes from the artists’ fans.
Diamond Platnumz has been on a winning streak of late and it has barely been three days since he took home 3 AFRIMMA and 2 NAFCA Awards.
The Bongo Flava star bagged the Best Live Act award at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs), just 3 months ago.
However, Diamond’s winning streak is not restricted to his career, but extends to his family life as well. Diamond and his Ugandan partner recently had an addition to the family with the arrival of Baby Tiffah.
They recently revealed their daughter’s face on their social media after relatives of Zari’s ex-husband raised questions over the baby girl’s paternity.
After they revealed her face, fans admitted that their daughter indeed resembled Diamond’s.
Tiffah the ‘princess’ Instagram account hit over 28,000 followers and she received her first pay cheque from a baby shop just hours after her birth.
Zari was married to wealthy Ugandan businessman Ivan Ssemwanga and she had three children by him before they split up.
Before hooking up with Zari in November, Diamond was dating former Miss Tanzania and actress Wema Sepatu.
Zari and Diamond Platnumz have been together for slightly more than a year.
