Tanzanian heavy-hitter Diamond Platnumz has employed Wema Sepetu as a TV host on his yet-to-be-launched Wasafi TV.
Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam last weekend, Wema Sepetu said she and Diamond are good friends working on developing each other’s individual careers, and not that they are working on rekindling their love affair, which ended in November, 2014.
“Diamond and I are just good friends,” she said, adding: “I think what caused the rumour mill to run is the fact that Diamond and I were not in talking terms since going separate ways in November, 2014. We just decided to grow up; both of us matured. We, therefore, decided to put aside our initial differences and work together.”
In late January, the rumour mill was rife with speculations that Wema and Diamond were on the verge of getting back together after photos showing them in a cordial situation at an event organised by Diamond, went viral on social media.
“Nothing should come as a surprise when Diamond and I communicate or when he invites me to his functions,” said Wema Sepetu.
“What shocked many in late January was when Diamond invited Wema to his function – WCB Party. She (Wema) went. Diamond greeted and hugged Wema at the event; nothing much happened. We did not kiss or do anything, which showed we were in love. Hugging him does not mean we are dating,” said Wema Sepetu.
Wema, during the last weekend interview, revealed that their constructive relationship has seen Diamond Platnumz employing her as a TV presenter at his Wasafi TV project, which will go live on a later date in March.
“Diamond Platnumz is going to be my boss. I will host a show on Wasafi TV,” revealed Wema Sepetu.
Zari Hassan, in a late February interview with the BBC, revealed that she dumped Diamond Platnumz after the Sikomi star was spotted warming up to Wema Sepetu in the late January, 2018 party. Wema denies causing Zari pain, which led to her (Zari) quitting her union with Diamond.
“She (Zari) should sit down with her partner and address the challenging issues they are facing in their relationship. I have got nothing to do with Diamond right now. We support each other; I support him, he supports me; that is all. Maybe the chemistry between Diamond and I caused many, including Zari, to speculate that we were dating. There are no strings attached at all. My chemistry and Diamond could be blamed for what people think. Though, chemistry between people, who were once lovers, rarely fades. I dated Diamond in an on and off setting. And that chapter ended,” emphasized Wema.
“Zari has many other reasons to call off her relationship with Diamond; based on his past, and not the hug that he and I shared on stage at the WCB Party in January. There must be another contributing factor, which led to her break up from the singer. I cannot advise Zari on matters love, no,” said Wema.
Zari Hassan, on February 14, took to social media to reveal she was ending her 3 years and 3 months relationship with Diamond Platnumz because the award-winning singer was unfaithful.
In a late February interview with the BBC, Zari confirmed that her relationship to Diamond was no more – and that news about their break up was not meant to raise publicity for Diamond ahead of the launch of his new album ‘A Boy from Tandale’.
“It is true Diamond and I have broken up. In other words, it (relationship) is done! I blocked him since videos showing him cozying up to his ex-girlfriend (Wema Sepetu), went viral online. By the time I went on Instagram to break news about our split on February 14, we had not communicated for three weeks. I have decided to step on the side and let him do whatever he wishes to do,” said Zari.
“Diamond and I were working on restoring normalcy to our relationship after he confessed to cheating on me with Hamisa Mobetto. And when I was in the process of trusting him, a video of him hugging and getting affectionate with an ex-lover (Wema Sepetu) in public forum, surfaces online. Such actions by Diamond were meant to disrespect me; to show disregard to me and my children. It was no just right,” she added.
Zari Hassan claimed Diamond Platnumz had never told her anything about the videos and pictures of him and Wema, and that she only bumped into them online, when social media users were having a field day with them.
“I did not ask him about them either because they were a non-issue to me. I had already made up my mind,” said Zari.
Zari said Diamond was yet to formally seek her back.
“The time he apologised for a wrong-doing was when he confessed to siring a child with that other woman (Mobetto) – that was in September, 2017. I forgave him. Following the recent happenings, even if he apologises, I don’t think I would forgive,” said Zari Hassan.
The mother-of-five said the break-up did not affect her – even a bit – because “she was strong before meeting Diamond, and will remain strong even after breaking up with the singer”.
“I do a lot of things (business). First, you should know that even before meeting Diamond, I was making paid appearances at top entertainment spots; I was ‘Zari The Bosslady’ even before Diamond came into the picture. I will continue making appearances; I will emcee at shows… I will continue doing the same things,” said Zari Hassan.
Wema Sepetu and Diamond Platnumz, a one-time Tanzanian power couple, reunited at a party organised by Diamond’s record label WCB late January.
A video showing Diamond and Wema hugging for a couple of seconds on stage went viral on social media, with online users speculating – at the time – that Diamond whispered sweet-nothings into the renowned actress’ ears.
Diamond, consequently, took to Instagram to say he invited Wema to his event because there was no rivalry or a secret affair between them.
“Many people like it when parties fight; they enjoy engaging on threads which are baseless. You’d hear someone say: ‘Diamond, I am your biggest fan, and I really appreciate the work you do. I was, however, appalled when you invited Wema to your function’.
“You’d want me to continue differing with Wema, but the big question is: what will we be fighting over? When Wema and I are warring, how does it benefit you? How will it contribute positively to Tanzania’s art industry? You cannot purport to be my fan yet you rejoice when I am at war with other people, a war, which ended ages ago.
“I have a family that I love so much, I won’t leave it. This is not the time to brood enmity which is not founded on any valid premise. It is time for artists to work together toward growing the art industry for posterity. Thank you very much madam (Wema) for coming through,” said Diamond Platnumz.
In May, 2017, Wema Sepetu had ruled out any possibility of getting back together with Diamond Platnumz, saying “life has to move on” and the best thing her fans could do was pray for her to get wealthy man for a husband.
Wema Sepetu was responding to a follower on Instagram who wanted her to publicly declare that she won’t meddle in Diamond Platnumz and Zari Hassan’s relationship.
The fan also asked Wema Sepetu to recognise that Diamond Platnumz is now a father of two children with Zari Hassan.
“Baby, who told you that I want to get back together with Diamond Platnumz? Life has to go on (sic). That guy (Diamond Platnumz) has two kids for crying out loud. It is about time you guys accept that me and Naseeb (Diamond Platnumz’s real name) are no more. What you should be doing is praying for me to get a good man, not just any other man, but a man who is not famous; a man who is respectful. And my sister Mange Kimambi said: a man who is financially loaded!” said Wema Sepetu.
In another incident in May, 2017, Wema Sepetu and Diamond Platnumz met at the birthday party of Diamond Platnumz’s manager, Sallam Sharaff, where they (Wema and Diamond) took photos together, eliciting speculations online of a possible reunion of the ex-couple.
Diamond Platnumz and Wema Sepetu broke up in November, 2014 after a series of irreconcilable differences, with one being a claim that Wema refused to bear him (Diamond) children.
Diamond Platnumz would in December, 2014 hook up and kick off a relationship with Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan, with whom they now have two children together.
Wema Sepetu on the other hand, had been in an on-and-off relationship with 2014 Big Brother Africa winner, Idris Sultan.
The two (Idris and Wema) would later break up in April, 2016.
Ever since, Wema Sepetu has been linked to different men including a Tanzanian MP, a wealthy Congolese man, a model known as Calisah; among other men.
Wema is yet to make known who she is dating currently.
Diamond, on the other hand, was dumped by Zari Hassan on February 14, 2018 after 3 years and 3 months of a turbulent love life.
In an Instagram post on Valentine’s Day, Zari said she arrived at the decision after keen scrutiny of Diamond Platnumz’s behaviour. She said: “he cheats on me a lot”.
She wrote: “Understand that this is very difficult for me to do. There have been multiple rumours; some with evidence floating around in all sorts of media in regards to Diamond’s constant cheating; and sadly I have decided to end my relationship with Diamond, as my respect, integrity, dignity and well-being cannot be compromised.”
Zari Hassan, who has two children with the Utanipenda hit-maker, said she will work with the Bongo superstar to raise their children, Prince Nillan, One, and Latiffah Dangote, 2.
“We are separating as partners, but not as parents. This doesn’t reduce me as a self-made individual, and as a caring mother, and the boss lady you have all come to know,” she said.
Zari said despite that development, she will still emerge strong.
“I will continue to build as a mogul, i will inspire the world of women to become boss ladies too. I will teach my four sons to always respect women, and teach my daughter what self-respect means.
“Unlike many, I’ve been in the entertainment industry for 12 years, and through all my challenges I came out a victor because I am a winner, and so are all of you Zari supporters,” she concluded.
Diamond – in a previous interview – said she loved Zari because “of all the women she dated, only Zari agreed to give him children”.
Zari is the ex-wife of the late Ugandan tycoon Ivan Ssemwanga, who died in May, 2017 after suffering a stroke. Zari met Diamond after dumping Ivan over claims of physical abuse.
The ex-couple had three sons together.
