Successful Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz has come to the defense of his partner, Zari Hassan, whom sections had criticised for moving on fast even after losing two people close to her in a span of three weeks.
Zari Hassan, whose mother, Halima Hassan, died on July 20, was seen active on social media platforms while “happy”, prompting a section of her fans to criticise her “mourning style”.
According to Islamic practice, which her mother was inclined toward, a mourning period should last 40 days, after which, the grieved can resume their normal lifestyle.
“It’s barely two weeks since Zari Hassan lost her mother. She lost her ex-husband on May 25, 2017. However, she is acting all happy on social media. Who moves on from a mother’s death that fast?” posed an online user.
Zari Hassan’s partner, Diamond Platnumz, however says those criticising Zari for moving on fast from her loved ones’ deaths are imposing an unwarranted tradition on her.
“The riffraff pretend to know a lot about people who are grieving. This poor lady (Zari Hassan) has gone through a lot of challenges recently. She should be taken to a premier destination and be pampered to relieve her. If you, women, do not have moneyed men, who can take good care of you during moments of grief, then don’t force other lucky women to conform to your perceived traditions. You want her to lock herself in a room and cry her eyes out? Focus on your relationships! I have five days to mollycoddle Zari Hassan. Today’s the first (Friday, July 28),” said Diamond Platnumz on Instagram.
Diamond Platnumz and Zari Hassan are on a five-day vacation at Kenya’s coast, Mombasa.
