American gospel singer and actress, Della Reese, died on Sunday, November 19 at the age of 86.
The star passed away peacefully at her California home surrounded by love following years of health struggles related to diabetes.
Reese’s co-star on ‘Touched by an angel’ sent out a heartfelt message announcing her death.
“She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and pastor, as well as an award-winning actress and singer. Through her life and work, she touched and inspired the lives of millions of people. She was a mother to me and I had the privilege of working with her side by side for so many years on ‘Touched by an Angel.’ I know heaven has a brand new angel this day. Della Reese will be forever in our hearts. Rest In Peace, sweet angel. We love you.”
The ‘Don’t you know’ singer began singing for audiences when was just six years old at her local church, with her roots clearly in gospel music.
At 13, Reese landed a gig with gospel icon Mahalia Jackson’s group which became a stepping stone to her future ventures into music.
Reese launched her TV show “Della” in 1969, after which she began a move into an acting career that would take her to even greater national prominence.
CBS, home of “Touched By an Angel,” hailed Reese’s legacy as an entertainer with a kind and generous heart of uplifting her audience.
“We will forever cherish her warm embraces and generosity of spirit. She will be greatly missed. Another angel has gotten her wings.” CBS said.
