A Tanzanian public prosecutor on Wednesday, September 13 asked a Dar es Salaam court to order the arrest of top actress Wema Sepetu, who is facing a drug possession charge.
Wema Sepetu’s lawyer, Peter Kibatala, objected the request, saying that the prosecution’s application had not followed proper procedure.
Mr Kibatala claimed a piece of evidence issued against Wema Sepetu by an officer of the Prosecution Department in Dar es Salaam, Inspector Willy, lacked sufficient reason to warrant Wema Sepetu’s arrest.
Mr Kibatala, therefore, urged Kisutu Resident Magistrate, Thomas Simba, to throw out the prosecution’s request.
According to the State Attorney, Constantine Kakula, the prosecution’s application – for Wema Sepetu’s arrest – followed a proper procedure and should thus be granted by the court.
The judge, Thomas Simba, has set October 4 as the date for ruling.
It is alleged that Wema Sepetu was on February, 2017 caught with marijuana at her home in Dar es Salaam, which is contrary to Drug Control laws in Tanzania.
