Francis Atwoli has blasted Budalang’i MP Ababu Namwamba for “taking paternity leave” when other leaders are debating on matters of national importance such as the IEBC stalemate.
Speaking at the burial of COTU Chairman Rajab Mondi ‘s wife at Kapchemgum in Hamisi Vihiga County on Saturday June 11, Atwoli termed Ababu Namwamba’s action a “bad show off” following online circulation of photos showing the Budalang’i lawmaker spending time with his children, and bottle-feeding his new born.
Atwoli further questioned Namwamba’s commitment to his party and the populace that he represents. The COTU boss termed the ODM secretary “ignorant”.
Ababu Namwamba on June 7 said he has been looking after his wife, Priscah Namwamba, who gave birth to their baby number three in April, 2016, hence his absence from the political scene.
Ababu Namwamba argued the commitment that comes with being a new father has made him miss in action during Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) anti-IEBC protests that took place in the capital and other regions in the country for the past five out of six Mondays.
“I have been out and about. We got a baby a month ago. So I have been busy on paternity leave,” Ababu told fellow legislators.
“It is purely coincidental that some things happened while I was away,” he added.
Ababu Namwamba and his wife Priscah Namwmba welcomed their third baby, a son, on April 1.
Atwoli has however taken issue with Ababu Namwamba’s photos.
“Some of us have quite a number of wives and grandchildren but we do not go round posting their pictures everywhere,” said Atwoli.
The COTU boss says he will spearhead the process of uniting all Luhya leaders.
