Corazon: A gynecologist’s workstation should be a woman’s haven, not rape den

Former socialite Corazon Kwamboka has expressed rage at the thought of male gynecologists’ offices being used as rape dens instead of offering medical solutions to women in need.

Her anger comes in the wake of rape allegations leveled against self-proclaimed gynecologist and medical doctor Mugo wa Wairimu.

Mugo first hit media headlines in 2015 over claims of sedating and raping female patients, who had visited his “hospital” in Githurai.

And in early November, 2018, an expose aired on NTV showed that Mugo – who was out on bond following his 2015 rape allegations case –, returned to his ways, in which he would sexually assault an unconscious female patient at his new “hospital” in Kayole, Nairobi.

The “quack doctor” was arrested at his Gachie home on Tuesday, and is currently on a 10-day detention at Pangani as police investigate claims that he is operating medical facilities without required licenses.

And following the happenings, Corazon Kwamboka, who is an advocate of the High Court, has expressed worries at what could have become of the gynecologists’ workstations.

“Lately, I have been to one doctor’s office, [and] to another (gynecologist). When you go to a doctor’s office, you think this is your safe space, and to be sexually assaulted when under the influence of the anesthesia is beyond sick,” said Corazon on Instagram.

“I want to extend my sympathy to every woman who has been through such ordeals. No woman deserves to be raped, but even worse to be raped or taken advantage of by a doctor, someone you trusted to act in your best interest at your most vulnerable time… I’m here to condemn this quack [Mugo] for putting his patients at risk, by doing medical procedures without due diligence…”
