Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has pledged to offer legendary Kenyan boxer Conjestina Achieng’ a job after she fully recovers from depression and marijuana dependency.
Sonko made announcement of the pledge through his communications team.
Elsewhere, comedian Chipukeezy, who is a board member of the anti-drugs body, NACADA, has pledged to help Conjestina Achieng’ get admission into a rehabilitation facility.
Chipukeezy’s pledge comes on the back of claims that the ex-fighter’s mental and health condition has extremely deteriorated.
Radio personality Joe Muchiri on Thursday shared to his Twitter page a video showing Conjestina looking dejected while receiving a Ksh50 note from a passerby outside a shop in Siaya Town.
And now Chipukeezy, who was appointed as a NACADA board member in June this year, has come out to offer his assistance.
“I have talked to the family, and we have agreed I go pick her up tomorrow [Friday, November 2] in Kisumu and take her to the best rehabilitation centre in Kenya. As NACADA, we will take care of her,” said Chipukeezy on Instagram on Thursday, November 1.
Conjestina was, in the past admitted to several rehab centres, including Mathari Mental Hospital and the Foundation of Hope Rehabilitation Centre in Kisumu, where she did not fully recover.
According to Dr Javan Ochieng’, who attended to her at the Foundation of Hope Rehabilitation Centre, Conjestina received treatment for clinical depression and marijuana dependency.
Conjestina’s elder brother William Ochieng in May, 2016 said the ex-boxer was causing panic among family members after she confiscated several pangas from primary school going children who had just turned up for Term Two.
