An autopsy performed on a Kanga High School Form Three student has revealed that he died after blood clotted in his right lung, preventing oxygen from reaching vital organs; including the brain.
The 17-year-old student died on Tuesday afternoon (July 18) after collapsing outside a classroom at Kanga High School in Migori County.
A postmortem was conducted by three doctors – family doctor, school doctor and government pathologist – on Wednesday, July 19. Teachers and family members of the deceased were present during the exercise.
Kanga High School principal, Michael Gweno, said the student was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Royal Hospital in Rongo Sub-County on Tuesday.
Gweno said the student’s body, upon request by his family, was moved to Nyamira mortuary, which is near his ancestral home.
The Kanga High School principal eulogised the late student as a brilliant young man, who topped his class.
“Kanga High School fraternity is saddened by his death,” said Gweno.
Rongo OCPD, Kisaka Muganda, said tissue samples were taken from a part of the student’s body for further examination in Nairobi to establish the cause of the blood clot.
