A 65-year-old woman from Muchatha Village in Kiambaa Sub-County, Kiambu County died after she and her middle-aged niece were gang-raped last Saturday, February 3.
The deceased’s niece is recuperating at the Kiambu Level Five Hospital following the heart-wrenching ordeal.
The two members of the Catholic Women Association (CWA) at St. Peter’s Church in Njoro, Kiambu County were heading home after attending a prayer session at the Subukia Shrine in Nakuru County, when a group of men accosted and raped them at 9:30pm, Saturday.
After allegedly committing the heinous act, the gang attacked their victims with crude weapons. The now-deceased sustained serious head injuries, which she succumbed to at the scene of attack.
Her niece, who also sustained head injuries, managed to escape from the scene and was rushed to hospital in critical condition by Good Samaritans.
Mobile phones belonging to the two women were found thrown on the road one kilometer from the scene of crime.
At the murder scene, a CWA-branded scarf and a bottle of water were retrieved.
The deceased’s body was moved to a mortuary in Kiambu County.
Police say they have launched a manhunt for the killer gang.
