Catholic priest loses over Ksh270, 000 in robbery on Meru-Chuka highway

BY KENDI NJERU IN THARAKA NITHI COUNTY.

A Catholic priest lost property worth over Ksh270, 000 in a robbery incident, which occurred on the Meru-Chuka highway Tuesday night.

Father Isaac Munene of Mitunguu Parish, who was headed to Meru from Chuka on a motorbike, was attacked by four men at Weru area.

The armed robbers, who were also traveling on a motorbike, made away with Father Munene’s motorbike valued at Ksh200, 000; a laptop valued at Ksh42, 000; a mobile phone valued at Ksh26, 000; clothes; and Ksh8, 000 in cash.

Police say they have launched a manhunt for the robbers.

“We suspect that bodaboda operators in this area are colluding with robbers to steal from residents. The bodabida riders have formed a habit of monitoring our movements and would, thereafter, inform the robbers on which places to target,” said area police boss.
