Police in Embu have launched investigations into the death of a 14-year-old boy from Kivue Village, which occurred after drowning in a hotel swimming pool early this week.
The three star hotel is owned by a Cabinet Secretary.
Embu West OCPD Francis Sand said that boy namely Job Allan Kariuki was in the company of his parents when the incident happened.
The police boss said that other children who were swimming in the pool unsuccessfully tried to rescue Kariuki.
Rose Wawira, Kariuki’s aunt, said it was difficult to monitor the children, as the facility was packed to capacity.
Kariuki was a Standard Seven pupil at Gatunduri Primary School.
Kariuki’s grandmother Nancy Muriithi casts blame on the hotel’s management, saying had it put sufficient safety measures the boy’s death could have been prevented.
Ms Muriithi has consequently advised the hotel owner to employ a qualified lifesaver to monitor users of the swimming pool.
