Police have been allowed 14 days to detain a suspect alleged to have circulated a sex tape involving a middle-aged woman, who physically resembles a Parliamentarian from the North Eastern region.
The video was widely shared on social media last week, with online users debating whether the woman, who was recorded having sexual intercourse with a man believed to be her lover, was indeed the legislator from North Eastern.
Douglas Baya, a blogger who is said to be working for a local viral news website, was arrested on Thursday, December 27, and arraigned before Kiambu Senior Resident Magistrate Brian Khaemba.
The suspect, however, did not take plea.
Cybercrime Investigating officer Bakhith Khaungu requested the court to allow the agency 14 days to obtain a forensic report on cyber crime from the Communication Authority.
Khaungu said the anti-cybercrime unit also plans to travel to Wajir and Kakamega to arrest more suspects linked to the case.
Kiambu Senior Resident Magistrate, Brian Khaemba, granted Khaungu his request.
The suspect will be arraigned in court on January 14, 2019.
