Celebrated events’ organizer and CEO of the Main Events Company – and now Deputy Director in charge of State branding and events –, Thomas Kwaka, better known as Big Ted, says he did not attend university but has a lucrative job at Office of the President of Kenya – thanks to his determination and vision.

Big Ted who was appointed to the top government job in June, 2013 when Uhuru ascended to presidency, urges the youth to not use lack of education as an alibi to cause chaos in society and resort to crime.

In an exclusive eDaily video, Big Ted reveals how he managed to impress President Uhuru Kenyatta when he landed a sole chance back in 2013.

“Let me tell the youth something. I have never enrolled for a degree in university, but I work at State House, and I work for the president. My employment is not attributed to academic qualifications, but it is because I believed in myself and told myself that one day I must work for the president. So, you (youth) shouldn’t just sit and say: ‘I’ll be throwing stones because I am not educated to desirable levels.’” Big Ted said.

“What God has gifted you with, perfect it and commit to excellence. I am paid to communicate, and it is communication that got me a job at State House. I vowed the day President Uhuru Kenyatta would give me the microphone to speak; he would find no other person better than me to give the job to.”

The entertainment guru, who played a leading role in trooping the youth to rally behind President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto during the last political campaigns, got the job after he emceed at an event presided by Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua – and the then President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta, spotted him; and asked for his appointment.

“And I said: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for His Excellency the Governor of Machakos Dr Alfred Mutua…’ and that is how I got my communication job at Office of the President.”

Big Ted advises the youth to commit to perfection so that they succeed in life.

“If your work is to package goods and sell, be good at it,” he says.

Bit Ted is equally a good standup comedian – a talent he fuses during his emceeing assignments. He once managed Jose Chameleone, Bebe Cool and Redsan – at the same time.
