Penniel Mungilwa, popularly known as Penny, has said the ban on shisha in Tanzania has affected her.
The ban was imposed by the country’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa early July, citing health concerns that come about with elongated use of the flavoured water pipes.
Penny, who was once singer Diamond Platnumz’s lover, said there’s an “amazing” feeling that smoking shisha elicits in a person – and that a water pipe smoker “often forgets his or her woes” after a smoking session.
“The ban has really affected me. I have no choice, but to oblige since laws are made to be followed. Moreover, the ban was imposed by one of the country’s top leadership. However, I’m seeking clarity on whether the ban only applies to commercial entertainment joints or it also prohibits shisha smoking at home,” said Penny.
The government said businesses in the country’s biggest city, Dar es Salaam, were expected to stop shisha sales within seven days.
PM Majaliwa is reported to have said that shisha smoking was killing future generations.
Penny broke up with Diamond in 2013 after it emerged that the two were cousins.
