Baby’s body found floating on Lake Victoria

BY GEORGE AMOLO IN SIAYA COUNTY.

A baby’s body was found floating on Lake Victoria in Usenge Sub-Location in Bondo, Siaya County on Sunday, February 3.

The baby’s body was discovered by fishermen, who were approaching the shores of the lake at Goye Beach.

According to the fishermen, a middle-aged woman was spotted carrying the baby boy on the shores of the lake on Saturday evening, but none of them suspected she would leave it in the lake.

Usenge Sub-Location assistant chief, Manasse Osuri, says he suspects that the baby’s mother also threw herself into the lake; and that there are chances she also drowned.

The toddler’s body was taken to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary.

Authorities are yet to give details about the baby’s age, though it is suspected it was 1-year-old.

A search for the baby’s mother is underway.
