Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Tanzanian actress Wema Sepetu.
Resident Magistrate Maira Kasonda ruled Tuesday that the film star be arrested after she failed to appear in court for the hearing of her case in which she is accused of circulating sexually provocative videos on social media.
Wema’s lawyer, Ruben Simwanza, however said her client arrived in court, but was overwhelmed by an ailment, forcing her to leave before the hearing of her case could begin.
The prosecution, led by Silvia Mitanto, told the court that neither Wema nor her lawyer informed the court – in advance – that the actress wasn’t going to attend the session, despite her bond terms stipulating that she needed to appear in person in court.
Resident Magistrate Kasonda consequently ordered Wema’s immediate arrest.
In October last year, the actress attracted legal wrath when her videos kissing her then-Burundian boyfriend provocatively went viral on social media.
