American singer Ne-Yo plans to ‘put his money’ in Kenya

Celebrated American singer and songwriter Ne-Yo has revealed he has plans to invest in Kenya.

Addressing the press Tuesday at Coke Studio headquarters in Nairobi, the record producer said, “I am meeting very powerful people. Just recently I met Chris Kirubi. I was told he is one of the most powerful people in Kenya.

“But I am not telling you where I am going to put my money because we have to sit down and have a conversation about it.”

Ne-Yo flew into the country on Monday for the third season of Coke Studio Africa Recording.

The singer, who was this season’s Coke Studio guest star, recorded a mash-up with artistes: Wangechi, Ali Kiba, Ice Prince, Maurice Kirya and Dama Do Bling of Mozambique.

Ne-Yo, who received a rousing welcome from Kenyans, shared his thoughts about the hosts (Kenyans) terming them very hospitable.

“Kenya has the most loving people ever. From the airport all the way to the hotel, I noted how much love is in people here. Kenyan people are beyond nice. “

He added: “It feels so good when you come from the other side of the world and get so much love from all the people.”

The ‘Miss Independent’ hit-maker also revealed why he always dons hats.

“It’s just the head – it’s a little bit bigger than average, but other than that, it’s just a head.”

Ne-Yo opened up about the African artistes he has met and added he was moved by their keen eye for art and enthusiasm for music.

“I love African music, it’s incredible. I met P-Square, Diamond Platnumz, and Vanessa Mdee when I was in Durban. I am definitely a fan of the African movement that’s happening and I’ll be one of the first people to go back to the US cheerleading that Africa is coming.”
