Eldoret Alcohol Traders and Bar Owners have petitioned the County Government of Uasin Gishu through the county assembly to review the current laws governing the sector.
The petition which was read to the house by the deputy speaker Hosea Korir termed the current legislations as draconian.
Among the issues addressed in the petition is the bars’ operation hours, high levies imposed on business operation licenses and zoning of operation spaces.
The petitioners caused laughter in the chamber with demand that pensioners need long drinking hours.
The petitioners decried that the legislated opening and closing hours of 5pm-11pm respectively had barred most of their esteemed customers from enjoying themselves.
These customers include the night shift workers who need to visit the drinking joints during the day. They also raised their concerns on harassment by law enforcers.
The speaker Hosea Korir directed the relevant committees of Health Services Trade and Finance to look into the matter and report back to the house with the report soon.
