A Somali woman was stoned to death after being accused of marrying 11 husbands, the BBC reports.
Shukri Abdullahi Warsame, 30, was convicted in a Somali court that is believed to be under a militant Islamist group Al-Shabaab.
Residents of Southern Sablale town watched as Shukri Abdullahi was stoned to death and later buried by al-shabaab fighters who are believed to have a strict interpretation of Sharia law.
Speaking to Reuters, Mohamed Abu Usama, al-Shabab’s governor for the Lower Shabelle region said, “Shukri Abdullahi and nine husbands, including her legal husband, were brought at the court, each saying she (Shukri Abdullahi) was his wife.”
Islamic law prohibits a woman from marrying more than one husband.
Shukri Abdullahi appeared in court in Sablale, South-west of Mogadishu where she pleaded guilty.
This is not the first time that militants have employed harsh judgements on victims.
