A 29-year-old man from Mugonga Village in Funyula Constituency, Busia County was stabbed to death by his lover’s ex-husband on Wednesday, October 17.
Bernard Bwire died while receiving treatment at the Kakamega County Referral Hospital on Thursday.
Bwire was allegedly killed by his lover’s ex-partner, who had confronted him to explain the nature of relationship he was having with the woman.
Bwire’s mum, Majuma Were, narrates what transpired on the sad night. “My son’s girlfriend, who is a divorcee, texted him in the night, saying: ‘My ex-husband has sent me a message, threatening to kill me’. Bwire rushed to her house, not knowing that the woman’s ex-husband was hiding in a nearby thicket.
“Upon reaching the woman’s house, the woman’s ex-husband confronted him, and a fight ensued. It was during the fight that my son was stabbed in the stomach, and the suspect fled the scene. We rushed him to hospital, but he was pronounced dead not long after the incident,” said Ms Were.
Bwire had been rushed to Busia County Referral Hospital for emergency care before being transferred to Kakamega.
Funyula OCPD Mary Kiarie says police are looking for the suspect, who remains at large.
Bwire is survived by a wife and two children.
