A 17-year-old girl from Mulgelwet Village in Ainamoi, Kericho County was found killed by her 18-year-old lover, who ended his own life after the horrific Friday night murder.
According to Poywek Sub-Location assistant chief, Joseph Chirchir, the man, Ismael Chepkwony, fatally stabbed his girlfriend, Mercy Chebet, after she dumped him for failing to meet her financial needs.
Chirchir said it is Chebet’s mother, who discovered her lifeless body lying on the roadside when she was going to buy milk from a neighbour Saturday morning.
Chebet’s breasts had been chopped off and her abdomen slit open in the brutal attack.
After killing Chebet, Chepkwony went three kilometers from the scene of murder and ended his life by hanging from a tree near Poiywek Primary School.
Chepwkony had used a panga to kill his lover.
According to Chirchir, Chepkwony had lured Chebet out of her mother’s home at 10pm Friday, before killing her.
“The murder was committed so fast, given Chebet’s mother did not hear any commotion despite the incident occurring a few metres away from her home,” said Chirchir.
Chepkwony’s body was discovered hanging from a tree Saturday morning.
Chirchir said Chepkwony had, in the past, unsuccessfully attempted suicide after his mother declined to sell a parcel of land and use the proceeds to buy him a motor cycle for boda boda business.
“The 18-year-old was temperamental. I once ordered for his arrest after he attempted suicide,” said Chirchir, who released Chepkwony after the teenager’s mother intervened.
Chepkwony’s and Chebet’s bodies were moved to Kericho District Hospital mortuary.
