A 16-year-old girl from Soko Mjinga Estate in Maralal Town, Samburu County died on Monday, November 20 after reportedly drinking too much alcohol.
According to her friends and relatives, a doctor had advised the now-deceased against alcohol consumption after she was treated for a health problem associated with chronic heavy drinking.
“The girl’s death might have been caused by excessive alcohol consumption. She was hospitalised at a health facility where I work. The doctor treated and discharged her, but advised her against alcohol consumption,” said Solomon Ekiru, a resident of Soko Mjinga Estate.
The girl’s body was moved to Samburu County Referral Hospital mortuary.
Residents have urged the local government authorities to swing into action and arrest illicit alcohol brewers, saying in a similar incident, another woman recently died after consuming the brew.
