Police in Kisumu on Wednesday, March 29, arrested 15 Egyptian nationals for allegedly conducting businesses in the country with fake work permits.
The 15 were arrested during a dawn operation, when officers raided three houses in Polyview Estate, where the suspects had been staying.
The suspects, some of whom had expired tourist visas, were found with several goods including electronics, curtains, kitchen wares and assorted goods.
A senior official at the immigration office, who sought anonymity, said that the group had been selling the goods within the town for days before being discovered.
They were later arraigned before Principal Magistrate Christopher Yalwala with charges of being in the country illegally, as well as possessing forged documents.
They, however, denied all the charges and were released on a bond of KSh200, 000 and an alternative of a cash bail of KSh100, 000.
The case will be heard on April 29, 2017.
