Man charged with defiling minor causes drama in court

A 23-year old man caused a stir in court on Wednesday November 2 after he was asked to raise Ksh 300,000 as bond to secure his release after being charged with attempting to defile an 11-year old girl.
John Mukundi Kiura sought from Chief Magistrate Albert Gicheru why he was going to jail yet the girl whom he was alleged to have defiled had not really been defiled.

Mukundi claimed that the girl and his brother started running once they spotted him because he was ‘dirty’, explaining that he works as a boda boda loader in Embu market. This prompted the prosecution to seek the court to order for mental assessment of the accused.

Mukundi added that the court could not send him to jail just because he pleaded not guilty to the two counts levelled against him.

Mukundi had been charged that on 28 October at Iveche Village in Embu he attempted to defile the 11-year-old-girl.
On the second count he was charged with indecent act toward the girl after he allegedly touched the victim with his genitals on her private parts.
The case will be mentioned on November 14, 2016.
