Ten students were injured and rushed to hospital after fire broke out in a dormitory at Hobunaka Boys Secondary School in Vihiga County on Monday night (January 29).
Property worth thousands of shillings, including clothes and books, was destroyed in the inferno.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established, though Hobunaka Secondary School principal Henry Indimuli Okusi suspects it could have been caused by an electrical fault.
Mr. Okusi said the injured were rushed to hospitals in Vihiga County.
The students managed to put out the fire, which had destroyed parts of the dormitory.
They, however, blamed the school bursar for locking up fire extinguishers in his office, saying had they been able to access the fire-fighting equipment, they would have salvaged their property.
The students urged the national and county governments to provide them with uniforms and books so that that they continue with their studies without interruption.
